KUALA LUMPUR: The reviewed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for natural disaster will be released this week, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the reviewed SOP will among others include religious aspect to assist victims in disaster-hit area.
“Apart from extending physical aid, it is equally important to lend support through religion as victims natural disaster like flood are generally exhausted and restless.
The newly-established Natural Disaster Management Agency consists of different units including health and technical, which comprise of doctors and engineers, among others.
“Meanwhile, other uniformed bodies like Fire and Rescue Department have the skills and knowledge to assist victims with suicidal tendencies,” he said in reply to a supplementary question by Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan (PAS-Kota Baru) on whether the Civil Defence Department planned to train its personnel and volunteers in psychology to assist natural disaster victims.
