APRIL 4 — One of the most important distinguishing features between humans and animals is our ability to think and reason.

Due to our thinking faculties, we are able to be the dominant species on the planet. We have heard words and ideas such as “intelligence”, “cleverness”, “creativity”, “innovativeness” and so on. All these ideas relate to the various ways in which the brain functions.

The brain if you like, is in a sense like the computer — garbage in garbage out.  In other words, the usefulness of your brain to you and others will depend largely on what you put inside your brain and how actively you use its potential and capability. Read more

KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 — Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Youth vice-chief Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin has been detained for questioning over allegedly seditious remarks he issued in the media last week, DAP MP Lim Lip Eng said.

Lim, who is also Shazni’s lawyer, confirmed with Malay Mail Online that the youth leader is currently at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters recording his statement.

“He has been arrested. I’m with him now,” the Segambut MP said.

Lim said Shazni was arrested at 3pm today by officers from the D5 division in Bukit Aman.

The DAP lawmaker said that Shazni will be detained for 24 hours but was unsure if the remand would be extended.

Lim added that Shazni was currently being investigated under Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948 for uttering allegedly seditious remarks that were later published in a news portal. Read more

Excessive film censorship will make Malaysians narrow-minded, deputy minister says

dewan_rakyat_signpost_2015_-_parliament_reportKUALA LUMPUR, April 4 — Too much censorship of movies involving sensitivities on religion, violence and sex would make Malaysians a narrow-minded lot, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said today.

Nur Jazlan said censorship is only required for scenes that violate certain guidelines set by the Film Censorship Board (LPF) and the religious authorities here.

“The presence of the LPF was meant to educate viewers so that they can make the best choice (in watching film).

“If we want to restrict all content made by film producers, it will not be good education or culture for viewers in our country. We wanted to provide more space to the viewers to open up their minds,” he told the Dewan Rakyat today. Read more
