PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan has committed to the process of freeing Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from jail within one week of forming the next government.
Its newly announced chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic), the former premier of 22 years, said that this would follow the legal process with the application of a royal pardon for Anwar who has been jailed for sodomy.
“We will wait for the law to take its course, not immediately because the prime minister who takes over will have a lot to do,” he said at a press conference early Friday morning after a Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting at the PKR headquarters.

The sedition case of Arulchelvan, of Parti Socialis Malaysia (PSM) has been adjourned to 3rd April 2017 and will be called up at Kuala Lumpur High Court in Jalan Duta on 3rd April 2017. Arul was charged under the Sedition Act for criticising the judiciary in its 2nd sodomy conviction of Anwar Ibrahim. He was charged on 23rd November 2015. KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 — Former minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim has pledged that he will not sugar-coat his answers and tell the truth when the police question him for an allegedly seditious tweet.
Zaid said he takes courage from jailed de facto Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, whom he said reminded the public that “only courage scares the bad guys in this world”.
“The police have kindly agreed to see me for questioning at Bukit Aman on Wednesday 16 November at around 11am. I will be careful with my answers, but as my friends should know, when the police question someone he or she is bound by law to answer them truthfully.
“I will be truthful and I will be candid. If I think there was a cover-up I will say so,” Zaid wrote in his blog today. Read more

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has filed a suit to stop the operation of the National Security Council Act on grounds that it is unconstitutional.
He named the Government and the National Security Council as respondents in his originating summons filed at the High Court civil registry on Tuesday.
Anwar, former Opposition leader, is currently serving a five-year jail term for sodomy at the Sungai Buloh prison.
The suit was filed through his lawyers N.Surendran, R.Sivarasa and Latheefa Koya.
