PETALING JAYA: Bersih 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah claims that her car was the target of an attack while she was driving along the Federal Highway today.

Maria, when contacted by FMT, said the experience was so sudden that she could not actually recall details of the assailant.

Maria said she was just leaving her office and taking a turn onto the Federal Highway when the incident happened at about 6pm. Her window on the driver’s side shattered.

“It’s not even a stone, I think. It’s an object that managed to crack my window.

“Luckily my window is tinted,” she added, indicating that the glass did not shatter entirely.

She could not say who the attacker was or whether he or she was on a motorcycle.

Maria said she would lodge a police report at the Kelana Jaya police station later today.

This is not the first time Maria has been the target of an attack.

In October 2016, she and her three children received an Islamic State-styled death threat.

Maria received the threat from an anonymous individual via WhatsApp regarding the upcoming Bersih 5 rally on Nov 19.

The threat came in the form of an Islamic State-styled doctored image, depicting a man dressed in black holding a dagger to her neck.

Similar images also included the faces of Bersih 2.0 committee member Mandeep Singh and Human Rights Society chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan.

Two days later, her son’s car was splashed with red paint.

Prior to that, Mohd Ali Baharom, better known as Ali Tinju, had warned Maria to “watch her back” or she may no longer “walk on this earth”, after the announcement on the Bersih 5 rally.
