BERSIH 2.0 menggesa Suruhanjaya Siasatan Diraja (RCI) bagi kes penipuan pilihan raya pada Pilihan Raya Umum ke 14.

Pemerhati pilihan raya itu berkata, walaupun bekas pengerusi Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya Hashim Abdullah bersara awal, siasatan komprehensif ke atas suruhanjaya lain dalam badan itu juga perlu dilihat.

“Kami menggesa RCI ditubuhkan bagi menyiasat penipuan pilihan raya dan kesalahan yang berlaku ketika PRU14, dan untuk menyiasat peranan yang dimainkan oleh pesuruhjaya dalam menyelesaikan isu ini atau tidak,” kata jawatankuasa pemandu Bersih 2.0 dalam satu kenyataan hari ini.

“RCI mesti dilengkapkan dalam tempoh enam bulan dari permulaannya.”

Bersih 2.0 turut menggesa enam lagi pesuruhjaya SPR untuk meletakkan jawatan.

“Bersih 2.0 menuntut enam pesuruhjaya untuk meletakkan jawatan mereka serta merta kerana kegagalan mereka menegakkan, mempertahankan dan melaksanakan hak demokrasi untuk mengundi dan juga mengamalkan pilihan raya, bersih, bebas dan adil,” menurut kenyataan itu. Read more

KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 — The Malaysian Bar passed a resolution today calling for a Royal Commission of Inquiry on the Perlis “death camps” and the alleged cover-up attempt by law enforcement agencies.

The body also urged the government to implement legal and policy reforms as part of its obligations under international laws against human trafficking, while also demanding the rights of trafficked persons be protected.

The resolution followed a motion to debate at the Bar’s annual general meeting today on a New Straits Times report published last year that alleged collusion on the part of local law enforcement agencies with human trafficking syndicates.

“The Malaysian Bar call upon the government of Malaysia to take all necessary steps to ensure that such tragedies never recur within our borders, including… establishment of a Royal Commission of Inquiry to investigate the existence of the mass graves and death camps,” the resolution read. Badan Peguam Malaysia (“Bar Malaysia”) ingin merakamkan ucapan takziah kepada keluarga mangsa-mangsa kebakaran yang membabitkan Pusat Tahfiz Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah, Kuala Lumpur yang setakat ini telah meragut 23 nyawa. Bar Malaysia berharap agar ahli-ahli keluarga yang terlibat kekal tabah menghadapi dugaan ini.

Bar Malaysia memandang serius kejadian ini yang dianggap sebagai tragedi kebakaran negara paling buruk untuk tempoh hampir tiga dekad ini. Sesungguhnya, kejadian ini hanya mengingatkan semula rakyat Malaysia kepada tragedi kebakaran yang telah meragut 27 nyawa pelajar Madrasah Taufiqiah Al-Khairiah di Guar Chempedak, Kedah pada tahun 1989. DPM: Govt willing to set up RCI on Memali incident

TAIPING, Aug 20 — The government is ready to set up a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) to probe the Memali tragedy in 1985, if there is demand from any quarters, including families of the victims, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said the law must be upheld and the party responsible, held accountable.

“As home minister, I will personally study all the reports on the incident,” he said when opening the Bukit Gantang Umno division delegates conference here today.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno vice-president said that in upholding the law, all quarters should set aside political differences.

In the Memali incident on Nov 19, a total of 18 people, among them four policemen, were killed and many others injured after the police launched an operation to arrest a religious teacher, Ibrahim Mahmud, who was popularly known as ‘Ibrahim Libya’. Read more

Hindraf founder P. Uthayakumar has filed a notice of motion to the High Court today for an order to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry on prisons’ treatment of inmates.

Uthayakumar named Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his deputy Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and prisons director-general Datuk Seri Zulkifli Omar as respondents. Read more
