Custodial death victim’s kin demands inquest

KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 — Vickraman Devid’s family called today for an inquest into the man’s death under police custody at the Shah Alam court complex.

Vickraman’s family lawyers said that the post mortem had stated the 37-year-old’s cause of death as “non compaction cardiomyopathy”, but noted that Vickraman does not have a history of heart-related illnesses according to his family.

“As this is a custodial death which would mean that an inquest is mandatory under the Criminal Procedure Code, we call upon the Coroner or the Public Prosecutor to immediately commence an inquest proceeding so as to be determine the manner in which Vickraman had died in custody and as to whether his death was accelerated by any unlawful acts or omissions by any persons.
